2 years later

Holy cow! It's been 2 years now. Where has the time gone. I wonder if anyone ever checks this blog. I could have been writing a personal diary and noone would have ever known! Now don't get excited: I have no juicy stories to tell. Just musing about what I could have written and someone - you- could have read. Oh, well... and the swans are back at it getting their nests ready again.

Technology is a funny thing. We're always thinking it should be some new product. cutting edge. Well I have a new piece of technology that I love! (And by technology I'm thinking a new tool that makes life easier.) It's more than one piece, actually. It's several new kitchen gadgets made from silicone. I have a glove that I never have to throw out because it got burned in the oven. This glove can stand so much heat that I can stick my hand in boiling water to pick up something. And then there's my silicone spatula: never sticks, never scratches. And lastly there's my vegetable scraper that has a silicone shield and a ring so it fits over my finger. It makes pealing really quick and I never cut mayself. Modern technology. it's wonderful!

Signs of Spring
For the last 2 weeks as I would come home from work I would watch for a solitary swan sitting in the family nest. Such patience! Yesterday the nest was empty. Now I can watch for the swans to swim by.
Do you know about swans? Beautiful, elegant, but snitty. They can be really nasty. And don't even think about going anywhere near their nest. They'll flap their wings and hiss and chase you away. Swans are monogamous:that's why you always see them swimming along in pairs. If a swan dies, the remaining swan partner doesn't re mate.
Remember the Ugly Duckling? Swan babies look like ducks, but don't think you'll be seeing one anytime soon. The parents carry their babies in the water under their wings. Then, when they're big enough, you'll see them swimming about with sort of grey/dirty white looking feathers.

Recycle your loved "things"

I've just discovered a new site, Freecycle.org, where you can advertise stuff for which you want to find a new home. You know, the things you hate to part with and wish you could give a new home. Just advertise here and someone will respond and make an appointment to pick up the item. Also, you can post a request for something you're hoping to find out there that someone is hoping to get rid of.
I'm thinking of posting for a pack-and-play. Every time Jim and Cara come to visit they schlep their's with them and I'm sure someone out there has a grandchild that has outgrown one, so I think I'll give it a try and see what happens. Stay tuned.

confessions of a blogger

When it comes to good habits from the list, I fall down on two: one is using technology to its full advantage -- hence my need to know all these 21 things -- and the other is to play. Somehow when something has to fall by the wayside to fit everything in, it's play that gets the short straw. I'm going to work on that.
(My own comment: Gee, when I read this I realized that I had already converted "play" into something I'm going to work on. Guess I'd better rethink my approach!)

Charlie is Christened!

On Mother's Day, June 13th, Charlie will be christened in Hoboken, NJ. He will be wearing his mom's family gown (and that, says his dad, will be the last time you'll see Charles Bennett Killen in a dress :-) .)
