Signs of Spring
For the last 2 weeks as I would come home from work I would watch for a solitary swan sitting in the family nest. Such patience! Yesterday the nest was empty. Now I can watch for the swans to swim by.
Do you know about swans? Beautiful, elegant, but snitty. They can be really nasty. And don't even think about going anywhere near their nest. They'll flap their wings and hiss and chase you away. Swans are monogamous:that's why you always see them swimming along in pairs. If a swan dies, the remaining swan partner doesn't re mate.
Remember the Ugly Duckling? Swan babies look like ducks, but don't think you'll be seeing one anytime soon. The parents carry their babies in the water under their wings. Then, when they're big enough, you'll see them swimming about with sort of grey/dirty white looking feathers.
